TAV boss promises to deliver ‘one of the most impressive terminals in the world’ in Abu Dhabi

Success with tenders won in Medina and Jeddah helped Turkish construction firm land the Abu Dhabi Airport joint venture tender, which is worth $3bn to its portfolio

Following the contract award for Abu Dhabi Airport, group president and CEO of TAV Construction, Sani Sener has pledged the development will be “one of the most impressive terminals in the world”.

Along with partners Arabtec and Consolidated Contractors Company, the joint venture will complete construction in 49 months.

The new Mid-Field Terminal will be built between two runways and will form a vital element of the airport’s expansion programme, increasing capacity to 27 million people per year. The contractual value of the new terminal construction is over $3bn.

Designed by Kohn Pederson Fox Associates, it will feature a 52 metre high ceiling, 225,000m2 roof area and 200,000mfacade area; the terminal will be constructed using 84,000 tonnes of steel.

“Following the tenders we have won in Medina and Jeddah of Saudi Arabia, we are extremely happy to be awarded the Abu Dhabi Airport tender, achieving such success and adding this $3bn worth of mega project to our portfolio,” commented Sener.

“Our adaptability to the new global economy is a result of staying in the airport sector and being able to use the scale and scope economies very efficiently,” he continued, also revealing that TAV Construction’s business volume has reach $11bn in under a decade, with current projects including airports in Qatar, Oman and Tripoli.

“We will be building one of the most impressive terminals in the world through this mega project that we are undertaking together with our partners.”
