China’s CGGC completes main infrastructure works for Al Mutlaa Residential City Project
Project has been handed over to Kuwaiti authorities
China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) has announced the completion of main infrastructure works for the Al Mutlaa Residential City Project, adding that it has been handed over to the Kuwaiti authorities.
In a statement, CGGC, a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Group – a state-owned energy conglomerate based out of Beijing – said that once completed, the Al Mutlaa Residential City Project would be able to accommodate 400,000 people.
The project is set to be a vital part of the Chinese-proposed Belt and Road Initiative. The construction area for the whole project is about 120sqkm, the statement added.
In October 2020, CGGC handed over the first batch of its housing infrastructure project to Kuwaiti authorities, it said.
China’s Belt and Road initiative is an ambitious programme to connect Asia with Africa and Europe via land and maritime networks along six corridors, with the aim of improving regional integration, increasing trade, and stimulating economic growth.
The programme is expected to involve more than USD$1 trillion in investments, focusing primarily on infrastructure development for ports, roads and airports, as well as power plants and telecommunication networks.
The scope of the Belt and Road Initiative currently covers more than 70 countries, which accounts for 65% of the world’s population, and one-third of the world’s GDP.
