REVEALED! The shortlisted nominees for the Big Project ME Awards 2019

Judges highlight the diversity and strength of this year’s nominations

Following an extensive and thorough judging process by a team of hand-picked experts from the regional construction industry, the shortlisted nominees for the Big Project ME Awards 2019 can finally be revealed.

With more than 20 categories up for grabs, this year saw more than 140 nominations by contractors, subcontractors, developers and specialist firms. With submissions ranging from large-scale, iconic megaprojects, through to highly technical and complex design and build projects, the judges had their work cut out when it came to choosing the shortlisted nominees.

“This year’s nominations are really strong. I understand that the number of entrants is higher and that’s a good sign. It shows that the industry is still vibrant and that there’s a lot of activity there,” said Chris Seymour, managing director – Mott MacDonald Middle East.

“What we’re seeing is greater focus on sustainability and on off-site construction, which is a trend we’re seeing in the market,” he added, when discussing the nominations on the sidelines of the judges meeting at Studio One Hotel in Dubai Studio City.

The judges noted that the categories that had the most nominations were the ones that were project focused, with Roger Griffiths from Heriot-Watt University Dubai pointing out that this year’s nominated projects were amongst the strongest he had seen in years.

“The Big Project ME Awards are very important for developers and contractors alike. It’s an opportunity to set out their stall and demonstrate what they’ve been up to in the last year, and make sure that the industry is familiar with the products they’re putting out to market,” concluded Nicholas Harris, managing director at Omnium International.
