Outdoor construction work and road works that require immediate attention may continue in spite of the summer midday break rule.

Such works could include the levelling of asphalt and pouring of concrete, emergency repairs to restore public sewerage systems and power, water, gas and oil supplies, and any works to maintain a smooth traffic flow, according to Emirates Business.

Works commissioned by government bodies, including road closures and diversions and power and communication emergencies may also be excluded from the ban if approved by the director-general of the UAE Ministry of Labour.

For most works, the Ministry of Labour will impose the midday break from 12.30pm to 3pm effective from June 15 to September 15. Furthermore, employers are required to provide outdoor workers with water, health services, safety and anti-dehydration solutions and sun shelters.
