Msheireb to be led by Gensler

Gensler has been appointed lead consultant on Dohaland’s flagship Msheireb project.

The design architect has been appointed to the second and third phases of the development, and will be responsible for the design of the Retail Galleria in phase two lead consultancy phases two and three for all detailed design works, carried out by six separate architecture firms, including Gensler.

Already an award winner following two accolades at MIPIM Architectural Review Future Projects Awards in Cannes, the US $ 5.5 billion Msheireb scheme will transform a 31-hectare site in central Doha.

Gensler’s contract award follows the earlier appointment of Burns and McDonnell as lead consultant for project phases 1A, 1B and 1C.

Due for completion in 2016, the mixed-use scheme will see Msheireb Properties construct over 100 buildings for residential, commercial, cultural and community purposes; while preserving key heritage buildings from the past.

The overall scheme aims to achieve LEED Gold certification; with several buildings targeting LEED Platinum, making Msheireb the world’s first sustainable downtown regeneration project.

The phase two scope of services consists of comprehensive design supervision of 10 mixed use buildings totalling an area of 144,888 m2 GFA. This includes 68,500 m2 of retail, 27,000 m2 of commercial office space, 25,388 m2 of hotel and 24,000 m2 of residential space.

For phase three,Gensler will also oversee the design of 14 buildings, totalling an area of 151,300m2 GFA , including 77,000m2 of residential space, a 28,400m2 hotel, 29,000m2 of retail space, 11,000m2 of office space, 2,600m2 of community use and a 2,500m2 mosque.
