Terex trucks prove their worth

Fuel efficiency and performance make for an easy sell

An Indonesian coal mining operator has purchased nine new Terex TA 400 articulated trucks, with the vehicles proving the level of performance and fuel efficiency needed.
The mine site is located at South Kalimantan on the Indonesian Island of Borneo, and the trucks sold by local dealer Uniquip.
In a typical shift, the trucks each move between 200-300 cubic metres of material for distances of 25-30 kilometres. Drivers have expressed a high level of satisfaction with the truck’s power to accelerate under full load, even in areas of rough terrain.
Uniquip’s product support director, Lisbon, said the mine operator has selected the Terex trucks based on their reputation for reliability, requirements for fuel consumption, but that other features were also a factor.
“The trucks operate in high humidity and a constant temperature between 28 to 31 degrees, however because of heat generated by the engine in these conditions, operators needed additional rear compartment air conditioning to retain a comfortable and productive working environment.
“Working nine hour shifts, often in low visibility as a result of rain and darkness, the trucks have also been fitted with additional lighting for improved rear vision.”
In addition to the importance of fuel efficiency, which is a major operating cost for the mine, the dealer’s ability to provide a 24/7 mechanical support team also boosted Terex’s appeal.
“By having a mechanic and assistant always available on site, supported by specially constructed warehouse facilities for regular service parts such as filters and hoses, the mine operator has the assurance that any scheduled maintenance downtime is kept to an absolute minimum”, said Lisbon.
Established in May 2013 and employing up to 50 people, the coal mine uses the Terex trucks to haul and relocate the excavated overburden to provide access to the coal seams, and also to move coal deposits for processing.
