Accommodating bachelors in residential areas, stay of two families in one flat and using the building for purposes other than what is permitted are the other areas of violations municipal officials found
A total of 6,747 building violations have been registered in Dubai during the past six months by the Dubai Municipality, as its building department continues to carry out surprise visits to buildings were it suspects violations have occurred, said Eng. Marwan Abdulla, the building department’s acting director.
The department has been cooperating with various government bodies in order to book the violators and imposing legal actions against them.
“Most of the violations has been registered for constructing additions without gaining a license for that,” said Abdulla. “Violations regarding setting up caravans, umbrellas and wooden boxes come next in the list.”
He said a total of 1132 violations has been registered in the first category while the share of second section figures as 924.
Eng. Jabir Ahmed Al- Ali, who is heading the inspection section at the department said the officials carried out 37,800 field visits during the first half of the year.
Accommodating bachelors in residential areas, stay of two families in one flat and using the building for purposes other than what is permitted are the other areas of violations municipal officials found during inspections, he added.
He attributed the number of violations to the explosion happened in the urban expansion and development in Dubai during the past years.
“Though the ever engulfing population in the city is making people do illegal activities related to building construction, accommodation and renting, the civic body is keen on checking the bad practices,” he said.
