Dubai Municipality and Nedaa signs MoU to enhance Dubai Geospatial Infrastructure

MoU signed during GITEX 2019 aims at creating a baseline map to plan, design, and manage development projects

Dubai Municipality has announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Dubai’s Professional Communication Corporation – Nedaa to collaborate for geospatial infrastructure development.

The MoU was signed by director of Dubai Municipality’s geographic information systems (GIS) centre, Eng. Mariam Obaid Al Muhairi, and executive director of Nedaa Professional Communication Co, Mansour Jumaa Bouasiba.

Commenting of the importance of the geospatial infrastructure in Dubai, Al Muhairi said: “Dubai Municipality has launched Geo-Dubai Infrastructure Project to provide a comprehensive, unified, and up-to-date baseline map for the Emirate of Dubai.”

“The project will also provide geospatial systems to create and update planning maps, real estate, buildings and roads, services networks, aerial photographs, statistical and environmental maps, and economic activity sites.”

“This is so that decision-makers, investors, and people working in this field can access maps from one source easily and quickly, using the latest geotechnical technologies, which saves time and effort and contributes to the construction of a smart city,” she added.

The GIS centre in the Municipality will be the only official source for collecting digital and descriptive geographical data from local departments, public authorities, institutions, persons, and companies operating in Dubai. Meanwhile, Nedaa will develop and implement geo-Dubai infrastructure, and create an updated baseline map for the emirate that can be used to plan, design, and manage development projects.

The MoU will aim to increase cooperation between the two parties in the field of promoting, developing and implementing the Geo-Dubai infrastructure. It will also look at exchanging expertise, information and available resources between them in order to provide a comprehensive, unified and updated baseline map for Dubai.
