Abu Dhabi City Municipality is gearing up to swap out conventional lights in favor of LEDs on streetlights within the city. The move is part of the municipality’s commitment to reducing power consumption and achieving sustainable development.
The project is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2018 and the municipality estimates that it will take 18 months to replace existing HPS/MH streetlights with LED Luminaires. Through the move, the city authority is aiming to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, while also simultaneously cutting maintenance and operating costs.
The Abu Dhabi Municipality is working with Parsons and the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council to highlight the benefits of LED technology, and held an introductory course on lightworks in the city. The workshop highlighted plans and the needs of the city’s street lighting system.
The project is being rolled out under a public-private partnership model and will emphasize the pioneering nature of the Abu Dhabi Island Lighting System project. The tendering process for the project is expected to open later this year.
