60,000-capacity Mohammed bin Rashid Stadium to be built in Al Aweer area
A 60,000-capacity sports stadium is to be built in Dubai at a cost of AED 3 billion ($817m), according to the UAE state news agency.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, inspected designs for the stadium, which is set to be built in Al Aweer area.
The building will be “the world’s first fully air-conditioned and raised off the ground stadium” and the design complies with FIFA standards, WAM reported.
Dar Al Handasah was selected as consultant and Perkins + Will as the main contractor for the project.
Other facilities include a training hall, car park with 5,000 spaces, a sports museum and conference halls.
