New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) recently announced construction completion of its Estidama 2 Pearl rated main campus on Saadiyat Island four years after building work on the project commenced in June 2010.

Designed by Rafael Vinoly Architects, the campus, comprising of 21 buildings, has been constructed to achieve environmental sustainability, and is expected to incorporate various techniques that facilitate the generation of 75% of hot water and 10% of power on campus through renewable energy sources. Spanning 450,000 sq.m., the campus is equivalent to the size of eight New York City blocks.

“We (NYU Abu Dhabi) have set rigorous standards for the fair and humane treatment of those who are building, maintaining, and operating our facilities,” said Al Bloom, vice chancellor of NYUAD.

“This remarkable campus reflects in the beauty of its architecture, and in the functional capacity of its facilities, that same commitment to achieving excellence.”

Construction of the campus was completed under a Statement of Labour Values, which included the standards and expectations for the appropriate treatment of individuals building and staffing NYUAD.

The outdoor sports facilities, including pitches, a grandstand and an athletics track, are scheduled for completion by mid-July. Facilities available on the campus include a library, theatres, indoor sports facilities, student and faculty residences and laboratories.
